Contract research from industry - Your options for collaborating with Fraunhofer IKS

To make it as easy as possible for you and our contacts at Fraunhofer IKS to get in touch, you will find direct contacts in the contact column on the respective service pages. Do not hesitate to contact our employees directly by e-mail, LinkedIn or telephone. The first contact between Fraunhofer IKS and you may be discussions at events, trade fairs or training sessions. Of course, you can always contact us yourself. In a free and non-binding consultation, an initial exchange takes place, for example to explore goals, timing or budget. After contract negotiations and signatures, research and development for your project follow.

Our researchers can support you with software engineering services for safety-critical applications in areas such as Industry 4.0, automotive, mobile machines and commercial vehicles. We can work together with private industry companies, public sector sponsors and scientific institutes using various cooperation models if they require our expertise and technical infrastructure:

  • Industry contract research and development in line with agile methods. A first joint workshop after an initial free consultation phase serves to define the scope of the planned research and development (R&D) work. Do you have a technological problem or would you like to further develop your product or service? We will work out a specific solution, implement it together with you and advise you as an independent partner.

  • Joint innovation teams created from your experts and our experts. Do you need support with your research activities? With our industry labs we offer space for teams to collaboratively work on an issue. Here you have access to state-of-the-art platforms, simulation environments and software tools.

  • Rapid virtual prototyping: Do you need software for rapid market introduction in order to address a previously unresolved challenge? We assume responsibility for the software engineering on the basis of specific simulation environments. When required we can also develop fully functional systems. You retain ownership of the products and prototypes developed in the joint project. As a rule, the further development and use of Fraunhofer IKS's own know-how remains possible. Each customer thus benefits from the wealth of knowledge developed through previous collaborations. Further rights of use (exclusive, application-related, non-exclusive/exclusive) are agreed with you in corresponding contracts.

  • Studies and potential analyses: Would you like to know what is technically feasible in your organization through the use of AI? Do you have a specific, still-unresolved issue related to AI, Industry 4.0, autonomous driving or cognitive systems? We can provide you a scientifically-developed answer and a subject-specific study created from a neutral point of view.

  • Training: Would you like to further develop your employees’ know-how and skills in our areas of expertise? We conduct practice-based training programs, workshops and seminars tailored to your individual needs. Data and knowledge are always negotiated in strict confidence. The independence of Fraunhofer makes it particularly easy to exploit synergies between different sectors. Even after joint projects have been completed, individualized employee training and further education are useful.

  • Alliance projects within the framework of third-party funded research activities: Does your research institute or company require additional expertise for a specific research project? We collaborate with universities, research institutes and companies within the framework of projects funded by the public or private business sector and have further access to the latest scientific findings.
