Online seminar »The role of standards for the future of AI«

This online seminar of Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS discusses the role that standards play in enabling the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and more specifically machine learning (ML) in safety-critical cyber-physical systems in areas such as automated driving, industrial robotics and medical technology.

The speakers of this event will be Simon Burton and Karsten Roscher from Fraunhofer IKS. Furthermore there will be a Q&A session with Ekaterina Vlasova from TÜV SÜD.

The webinar will deal with the following topics and questions:

  • The importance of standards: What are standards for? What types of standards are there? What role do standards play in the assessment and qualification of safety-critical systems and why are standards required in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning?
  • Safety assurance of AI: Which aspects of machine learning approaches make them particularly challenging to qualify for a safety-critical context? Against which criteria should ML-based functions be assessed?
  • Status Quo in the safety assessment of AI: What options are currently available for ensuring (and certifying) the safe use of AI in cyber-physical systems? What options are available for industry to move towards in safely deploying AI? How will the standards landscape develop in future

This seminar is aimed at interested engineers and managers who are new to either safety standards and/or artificial intelligence and machine learning. Pre-existing knowledge or experience in specific artificial intelligence techniques or safety standards is not required.
