As the world’s leading trade fair for smart automation and robotics, automatica brings together all key technologies in the technology hub of Munich. This makes it a meeting point for constructive and visionary exchange between industrial, research and political representatives.
Fraunhofer IKS is looking forward to meeting you at the Bayern Innovativ joint booth (Hall A5, Booth 228).

Fraunhofer IKS develops solutions that enable safe collaboration between humans and machines. Given the shortage of skilled workers and the dynamics of supply chains, we explore how to identify and leverage automation potentials—using both artificial intelligence and classical algorithms. Our goal is to enhance production performance without compromising the safety of individuals or production processes. We focus on data-efficient and flexible solutions.

At automatica, Fraunhofer IKS will present two approaches: Flexible Quality Inspection and Dependable Person Detection.

Flexible Quality Inspection

Despite advancements in image processing, AI-supported automation in quality inspection remains challenging, particularly due to the risk of false statements. Therefore, we are focusing on three key areas:

Lowering barriers to AI-supported automation
Increasing reliability while reducing data requirements
Developing specific, reusable AI models

Our approach automates decisions using AI that assesses them reliably, while experts review critical cases. This synergy provides reliable results without false alarms and continuously enhances the automation rate. Additionally, we present concepts and tools that empower experts to create their own AI solutions using generative AI.

Dependable Person Detection

Additionally, Fraunhofer IKS is working on the safe integration of AI for person detection, reducing recognition errors through systematic safety analyses. Our solution enhances operational efficiency and adaptability by preventing unnecessary delays caused by false alarms. At the same time, it increases safety for employees in production environments and ensures smooth and safe collaboration.

The flexible and adaptive solutions from Fraunhofer IKS, such as high-performance cobot applications, assist industrial users with implementation and compliance.
